Central Dispatch activated the tones at 1419 hours for a reported serious MVA in front of 7902 USH 11 just past the Regan Road. Intitial reports were that one vehicle may have been split in half. Assistant Chief John Keleher immediately requested that Engine 49 respond out of the village to the accident due to the serious nature. Fire Driver Bob Crowe and Firefighter Ben Barton were enroute at 1420 hours and arrived on scene four minutes later to find two vehicles off the roadway with one on its roof. Further investigation revealed there was one patient in each vehicle. The Engine 49 crew began to stabilize the vehicles and stretch hydraulic lines and protective hose lines. Additional members arrived on scene along with personnel from Potsdam Rescue and the extrication of both patients was begun. The patient in the overturned pickup was able to be removed relatively quickly and was transported to Canton Potsdam Hospital by Potsdam Rescue. The patient in the remaining vehicle was severely pinned and multiple hydraulic extrication tools were put to use in the effort to free the driver. West Stockholm Fire was requested to the scene for additional extrication tools. At the height of the extrication there were 6 different hydraulic tools (rams, cutters, and spreaders) in operation. After a little more than an hour the victim was freed and transported by Potsdam Rescue to CPH.
