The members of the Potsdam Volunteer Fire Dept. extend their sympathies to the family of Honor Roll Member Gilbert "Gil" Dumas. Gil served in the Dept. from January 1957 until October of 1964. Gil passed away at his home in Marana, Arizona on March 14th 2012. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 20th at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Church in Potsdam. Calling hours will be held from 4-7 PM on Monday, March 19th at the Garner Funeral Home. Gil, as he was known to friends and relatives, was born December 18, 1930 in North Lawrence, New York. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War. Following his service, he moved to Potsdam, married JoAnn Fowler, raised five children and became a fixture in the community until he and JoAnn retired to Arizona in 2002. Gil retired in 1990 after 36 years of service at SUNY Potsdam. He was a member of the Potsdam Elks Club; Knights of Columbus; the Friends of the Potsdam Library; he was a lifetime member of the Friends of the Oro Valley, Arizona Public Library; and was a longtime member of the Potsdam Country Club. Gil is survived by sisters Cecilia Donahue of Red Hook, NY and Theresa Monroe of Brasher Falls; by JoAnn Dumas, his wife of 56 years; by sons Michael (Pam) of Colton, Danny (Diana) of Tucson, AZ, Christopher of Sandwich, MA, David (Jamie) of Glens Falls, NY; daughter Jennifer Wiggin (Tom) of Marana, AZ; and eleven grandchildren.
