By Firefighter Mark Maroney
April 10, 2015

Potsdam Fire members were kept hopping during the day leading up to their Annual Meeting and Election of Officers. The first call came in at 0757 hours for a CO alarm at 7801 State Highway 11. Engine 80 (McLennan) responded at 0804 hours and arrived on scene two minutes later. Upon investigation, firefighters found a leaky valve on a fuel tank. Firefighters removed the hazard, ventilated, and were back in service at 0830 hours.
At 1138 hours Potsdam Fire was dispatched to a general fire alarm at 29 Main Street. Engine 49 (Lozipone) was out of service on alarm time and on scene at 1140 hours. Firefighters investigated and found the alarm had been set off by contractors working in the building. While the fire department was clearing from that call at 1152 hours, the Potsdam Police Department advised of a fire alarm activation at 24 Main Street (across the street) . The alarm company had previously notified the fire department that they would be working on the firm alarm system. All units were cancelled and returned to service at 1154 hours.
At 1719 hours Potsdam Fire was requested to standby on the scene of a possible meth lab at 16 State Street. Engine 48 (J. Robar) and a full crew responded for a standby. On scene at 1722 hours, firefighters stretched a charged 1 3/4" hose line to the front door and in full PPE, stood by to protect members of the New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Response Team entered the home to investigate and remove the components of the meth lab. Potsdam Fire units were release and back in service at 2137 hours.
At 2152 hours Potsdam Fire was out the door again, this time to a tree down on power lines in the road in front of 114 Smith Road. Engine 80 (Enslow) and Rescue 30 (J. Bradish) responded at 2158 hours and arrived on scene at 2205 hours. Engine 80 was released to return to station, and Rescue 30 maintained the scene. National Grid responded and all units were back in service at 2225 hours.

Units: Engine 49, Engine 48, Engine 80, Rescue 30
