By Firefighter James Corbett
December 7, 2016

The members of the Potsdam Vol. Fire Department extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Honor Roll member Albert J. Jarrett. Al served with the PFD from November 1953 until June of 1966.
His Obituary Follows:

Albert James Jarrett, age 92, of Cocoa, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on December 1, 2016.

Albert was born on November 29, 1924 in Minetto, New York to Charles and Aletha Jarrett.

Albert served in the U.S. Army in the pacific during World War II from 1944 to 1946. After the service, he worked in the plumbing industry in Potsdam, New York while also serving as a volunteer fireman for the Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department for eighteen years, where he rose to the rank of Fire Chief. Albert moved to Florida in 1967 where he worked at Cape Canaveral for Pan Am until 1969. He then went to work for the Brevard County School System where he was promoted to Supervisor of Plumbing and Heating. He retired from the school system in the spring of 1992.

Albert, also affectionately known as Albie, was a "house husband" for the next three years which afforded him the opportunity to explore his love of cooking, much to the great appreciation of his wife, Rosalie. During this time, Albert also took up the hobby of wood carving and model ship building, at which he excelled beautifully. Upon Rosalie's retirement, Albert and Rosalie bought a camper and spent the next several summers working and vacationing in one of their favorite places, Bar Harbor, Maine. They also enjoyed many cruises together, as well as vacations in Germany, Scotland, England, Alaska and New England. At age 70, Albert became a Train Engineer at the Brevard County Zoo delighting children and adults alike, as well as himself, for many happy years.

Albert was an active member of Rockledge United Methodist Church where he served eight years on the Board of Trustees, two years as Chairman. He was an active member of the Cocoa Elks Lodge #1532 where he moved up through all the chairs. Albert was also a 32nd degree Mason member of the Scottish Rite.

Albert is survived by his beloved wife of over 47 years, Rosalie, daughter Diane Snyder (David) of ME, sons Dana Jarrett (Barbara) and Donald Jarrett (Leslie) of VT, Grandchildren Kristen Vogel (John) of MA, Todd Snyder (Linda) of NH, Kristopher Jarrett (Erin) of NY, Adam Jarrett of VT, Christie Ve Strand (Shawn) of VT, Liza Beaudette (Travis) of VT, Step Children Steven Orebaugh (Karen) and Suzie Peffer Page of FL, Step Grandchild Ryan Peffer of FL, eight Great Grandchildren and one Step Great Grandchild. Albert is also survived by three brothers, his twin brother, Herbert Jarrett of MI, Fred Jarrett (Jean) and Jack Jarrett of NY and one sister, Jean Deering (James) of VT. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to Vierra Manor Assisted Living Residence, and especially to VITAS, for their loving, exemplary and devoted care of Albert over this past year.

Please join us for A Celebration of Albert's Life at Rockledge United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on December 17, with lunch and fellowship to immediately follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rockledge United Methodist Church,
1935 S. Fiske Blvd, Rockledge, FL 32955.
