Mutual Aid to Malone Fire

At 0744 hours Potsdam Fire was dispatched to respond with 5 SCBA personnel to the Village of Malone in Franklin County for a structure fire on at 384 West Main Street. Malone Fire had been on scene since the early morning hours along with every fire department in Franklin County. The two buildings involved housed over 40 people. The fire had progressed rapidly, killing one person and sending 29 more to the hospital for treatment of various injuries. Rescue 14 along with the 5 SCBA personnel responded within 5 minutes and made the 35 mile trip to Malone. While on scene, the PFD members assisted with overhaul operations, relieving exhausted local personnel. After working for four hours, members where released from the scene and returned to service at 1327 hours.
