On October 19, 2017 at approximately 3:33PM, Potsdam Fire was dispatched to the vicinity of Elm Street and Morningside Drive for a report of power lines down in the roadway.

Engine 49 responded with a full crew.

Upon arrival, it was determined that a tree had fallen down on Morningside Drive, knocking down primary wires and breaking a pole in half that had a transformer on it. As a result, most of the Village of Potsdam was without power.

Members set up traffic control around the incident on Elm Street and Morningside Drive until the utility crews could get the power restored. Members also conducted traffic control at the major intersections within the Village, as the Potsdam Police Department was busy handling an armed robbery.

Full power restoration took about an hour and a half to complete. All units were back in service at 5:42PM.

A special thank you to National Grid for arriving on scene so quickly and getting power restored to the Village in a timely manner and to the Potsdam DPW crew for removing the tree from the roadway. The Potsdam Fire Department gets to work closely with these two service providers within our community and we can never be too grateful for their crews.
