On June 12, 2018, at approximately 3:12PM, Potsdam Fire, Potsdam Rescue, County Car 7 were dispatched to 6474 State Highway 56 for a report of a house filling with smoke.

Engine 80, Rescue 14, Tanker 100, and Tower 5 responded along with 28 members.

Upon arrival, Potsdam members found what appeared to be a small fire in a wall of the apartment complex. A discarded cigarette caused the mulch outside the residence to catch on fire. The fire traveled along the brick foundation until it found a void in the concrete and started a wall stud on fire. Some occupants of the building were home at the time of the fire and called it in. Members opened up an interior wall and extinguished the fire before it was able to extended further.
