On Monday evening the members of the Potsdam fire department gathered at the station for monthly training. Engine 80 went to the river to draft with a group of firefighters that wanted pump time. Another group were going over saws and portable equipment while other members learned the cascade system and started driver training on Rescue-14. As training was going on Pyrites and Canton fire were alerted to a structure fire on County Route 25. Potsdam firefighters started monitoring the call in Canton anticipating a possible response. At 19:59 Potsdam fire was requested to send an Engine to standby at Canton station and to send SCBA personnel to the scene on CR 25. Engine-48 responded with a crew to Canton station and Rescue-14 responded with SCBA and manpower to the house fire.
At 22:31 the Potsdam fire department received a call from a resident at 6 Sealy Drive reporting a smoke condition in the house. Engine-49 responded immediately with Paid fire driver Pierce and Past Chief J Perry. Engine-49 arrived and it was quickly determined there was a smoke condition in the house from an unknown source, possibly electrical. As Potsdam firefighters were still assisting in Canton Engine-49 requested West Stockholm to the scene with manpower and SCBA. The thermal imaging camera on E-49 was used to start trying to determine the source of the smoke. A tripped breaker was discovered in the electrical panel that fed power to the furnace. Further investigation revealed the computer board in the furnace had malfunctioned and burnt up. Fans were used to ventilate the smoke from the basement. Potsdam fire was back in service from both calls at 23:41
