When firefighters pull crash victims out of destroyed cars, they have to know just as much about how the vehicle is built as they do about how to tear it open.
Potsdam members put that knowledge to the test Monday evening for their monthly department drill. They trained in using metal-cutting equipment (JAWS of Life), hand tools, and more to demonstrate their skills on how to safely and effectively remove a victim from a wreck. Members also trained on the different air bags that are used to lift heavy vehicles off victims if they become trapped underneath an object.
The technology of motor vehicles are always changing and the Potsdam Fire Department is always renewing their skills.
Martins Cito donated two vehicles for the training. |
