Busy Saturday for Potsdam Firefighters

At 09:09 Potsdam fire was requested with two tankers and manpower to assist West Potsdam with a house fire 440 Blanchard Rd. The initial call was for a mattress on fire but was quickly upgraded to a house fire. Engine-80, Tanker-100 and Rescue-14 responded to the scene along with Madrid fire, Morley fire and Norwood fire. Potsdam firefighters assisted West Potsdam with extinguishing the fire and overhaul. Potsdam fire was back in service from this call at 12:00.

At 09:34 Potsdam fire received a second call of a possible structure fire at 62 Lawrence Ave in the Village. Engine-49 responded immediately with the paid driver and requested West Stockholm to the scene to assist. Engine-49 quickly arrived along with Potsdam PD and it was determined to be an oven fire, fire was out. Gas was shut off to the stove and it was determined the small fire was contained in the oven with no extension. This call was cleared at 10:01

At 14:40 Potsdam fire was alerted to a fuel spill at the pumps, 147 Market St Sunoco. Engine-49 responded and firefighters found a car at the pumps was leaking fuel. Speedy dry was put down to contain the fuel and N.Y.S. DEC was contacted for a spill number. The spilled fuel was soaked up with speedy dry and put into containers for Sunoco to dispose of. The scene was cleared at 15:37.
