At 11:00am Potsdam firefighters were alerted for a Reported working Structure fire at 515 Sissonville Rd near Potsdam Paper Mill. Engine 48 responded with firefighter James Corbett and Chief Dave McGregor on board. En-route Chief McGregor requested tankers and manpower from West Potsdam, West Stockholm and Norwood Fire Departments. Norwood was also requested to respond with an Engine to the Hewittville Dry Hydrant. Assistant Chief Tim Jerome arrived on scene and advised that he had heavy black smoke showing. Engine 48 set up in front of the building and stretched its attack lines. An interior attack was initially attempted but was changed to defensive due to the heavy volume of fire and the pre-fire condition of building. Firefighters fought the blaze in freezing temperatures. Potsdam Town Highway responded to the scene to provide sand. The Red Cross was notified to assist the family. Firefighters returned to service at 18:15hrs.
