The Potsdam Fire Department was dispatched at 0027 hours to a reported personal injury MVA on SH 56 north near TJ Toyota. Fire Driver Robert Pierce responded immediately in Engine 49. Arriving at 0032 hours, members found two vehicles with severe damage from a head on collision. One vehicle contained four female victims with injuries ranging from moderate to severe. The second vehicle had one male occupant who was deceased. Engine 80 and Rescue 14 arrived shortly thereafter. PFD members, along with members of Potsdam Rescue, provided patient care and extricated the victims from the vehicles. All patients were transported by Potsdam Rescue to Canton Potsdam Hospital. Canton Rescue was placed on standby at the Potsdam Rescue building with an ALS crew. Potsdam Fire remained on scene and assisted law enforcement during the investigation process with lighting, scene cleanup, and traffic control. All units were back in service at 0559 hours.
