| The St. Lawrence County Office of Emergency Services is offering two mini-seminars in the next few months. The first is a mini-seminar on Shorthanded Firefighting. This program deals with today's manpower starved fire service. Whether volunteer or career crews operate your department, limited manpower plagues us all. The initial stages of response often leaves our firefighters in a very difficult and dangerous situation. This presentation provides interactivity with you, the frontline firefighter, by using those ideas you thought might not help the situation. These ideas may be the ones that will help save a brother firefighter in a time of need. Main features include the review of the two-in-two-out rule, reviewing your equipment to make sure it is user friendly, and reviewing your current training practices including hose loads, ladder climbs, and other common practices on the fireground. This seminar is being presented by Firefighter Robert LaGrow, FDNY and Training Officer Michael Healy, Rockland County Fire. The seminar is being held in the Kingston Theater at SUNY Canton on January 6, 2007. Registration begins at 8:00 AM and the seminar will start promptly at 8:30. The second mini-seminar will be offered on March 3rd, 2007 on Operations For First Arriving Companies At Private Dwelling Fires. This seminar, presented by Captain Michael Dugan of the FDNY, will review assignments for both engine and truck companies at private dwelling fires. These are the most common types of fires faced today and are where many firefighters are killed each year. Each participant will learn the common mistakes made during firefighting operations in these buildings. The seminar will be held at the Kingston Theater on the SUNY Canton campus with registration beginning at 8:00 AM. This is a 3 hour seminar. These mini-seminars are excellent training opportunities and all are strongly urged to attend. We never stop learning in this business! |
