| Potsdam Head Start treated two groups of their students to a trip to the Potsdam Fire Station to learn some very important fire safety messages. The students were also given the opportunity to see some of the equipment firefighters use at an incident. Fire Driver Robert Pierce and Chief Christopher Taylor presented a short program for the Head Start students to stress some very important fire safety messages including: 1. Children should never play with matches or cigarette lighters 2. Crawl low under smoke 3. Practice EDITH (Exit Drills In The Home) with your parents 4. Never hide under your bed or in the bathroom 5. Once you are out of the building, STAY OUT 6. Never go back into a burning building for toys, or pets Of course the students had an opportunity to see Fireman Bob in all his turnout gear. The students were reminded the Fireman is their friend and even though they may look scary in all the gear, the Fireman is there to help them and they should not be afraid. Fire prevention presentations and station tours are available for a variety of groups. Anyone interested should contact the station or email info@potsdamfire.org for more information. |
