St. Lawrence County Central Dispatch dispatched Potsdam Fire and County Car 7 at 2050 hours to a report of a stove fire at 11 1/2 Market Street. Dispatch further reported that was the caller believed the fire was out. Engine 49 (Fenton) responded and was on scene at 2053 hours. Firefighters began to investigate and found that the resident at the apartment was cooking popcorn on the stove when he forgot it was cooking. The resident put the fire out with a fire extinguisher prior to the FD arrival. Members used a positive pressure fan up to remove smoke from the apartment. Firefighters removed the stove and used a wet can to soak down the area. Rescue 14 (J. Corbett) responded upon request of command, Assistant Chief Danielle Rose, with the thermal imaging camera to verify the fire hadn't extended into the wall. Potsdam Rescue responded to check out the victim's hand that was burned but did not transport. Ten members responded and all units were back in service at 2134 hours.
