Potsdam Fire was dispatched at 0746 hours for low hanging wires in front of the Hampton Inn at 169 Market Street. Engine 49 (Fenton) responded immediately and arrived on scene at 0749 hours. First Assistant Chief Dave McGregor (36-2) arrived on scene, established command, and confirmed that there were wires hanging in the road. Rescue 14 (Andrus) along with Potsdam PD closed the north bound lane at the intersection of Market and Grove Street as well as the south bound lane at the intersection of Market Street and May Road. The road remained closed while National Grid, Verizon, and Time Warner Cable worked to clear the incident. The reported cause of the broken pole was a fork lift operator backing into a guy wire causing the pole to snap. The power was restored at 0807 hours with the fire department remaining on scene for an extended period of time while the pole was reset and roadway cleared. All Potsdam Fire units were back in service at 0922 hours.
