Mutual Aid Structure Fire in Norwood

In the early morning of October 15, Norwood Fire was dispatched to a report of an apartment building on fire at 49 Spring Street with the caller attempting to evacuate the residents. Norwood PD arrived and confirmed that all occupants were out of the building. Norwood firefighters arrived on scene with Norwood 30-3 confirming a working fire and requesting interior firefighters from West Potsdam Fire, Norfolk Fire, and Potsdam Fire. Potsdam Fire was dispatched at 0436 hours with Rescue 14 (J. Robar) enroute at 0443 hours with 5 interior firefighters. Upon arrival on scene, members were assigned to check for extension in the upstairs apartment on the A side. Finding no extension, Potsdam firefighters we reassigned to perform salvage overhaul in the kitchen fire apartment on the first floor. Members were also assigned to overhaul the apartment on the second floor on the D side. Potsdam's thermal imaging camera was deployed to assist in checking for fire extension. The first and second floor apartments on the D side suffered fire damage and the rest of the apartments suffered smoke damage. Potsdam members operated under the command of Chief Justin Perry (36-1). Potsdam Fire was back in service at 0730 hours.
