Chimney Fire 28 Bay Street

Potsdam Fire responded to a chimney fire at 28 Bay Street at 1755 hours. Engine 49 (Lozipone) responded with a crew and arrived on scene at 1756 hours to the address and noted flames coming from the chimney. Firefighters laddered the building to access the chimney. Firefighters stretched a 1 3/4" hand line to the door. Chief Perry arrived and established command. Command requested a second tone for manpower and for Tower 5 and Rescue 14 to respond. Tower 5 (Pierce), Rescue 14 (J. Robar), and Engine 48 (J. Corbett) responded. Firefighters used a wet can to extinguish the fire in the fireplace. Tower 5 set up on the D side of the house and accessed the chimney. Firefighters worked to clear the chimney. Adjacent areas were checked for for extension. Remaining debris from the fireplace was taken outside and extinguished. All units were back in service at 1854 hours.
