Two Car MVA with Injuries on State Highway 56

On Tuesday December 30, Potsdam Fire, Potsdam Rescue, and County Car 7 were dispatched at 1638 hours to a 2 vehicle MVA in front of Potsdam Plumbing on State Highway 56. Dispatchers were reporting that there was one victim with serious personal injury in one vehicle and the second vehicle had two people trapped inside. Engine 80 (M. Bradish) was enrotue at the alarm time with Rescue 14 (J. Robar) following a few minutes later for extrication. Chief Justin Perry arrived on scene at 1651 hours and established Command. Firefighters shut down State Highway 56 in the area of the accident and rerouted traffic. Firefighters utilized the spreader on the vehicle with the seriously injured patient to perform extrication and put hand tools to work on the second vehicle to open the doors. Firefighters assisted Potsdam Rescue with removing the victims from the vehicles. Potsdam Rescue transported the victim with serious personal injury directly to Potsdam Municipal Airport to be flown out by the LifeNet crew stationed there. A second patient with non-life threatening injuries was transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital. All Potsdam Fire units were back in service at 1750 hours.
