On Monday May 25, 2015, members of the Potsdam Fire Department started their Memorial Day morning off by having a memorial service at the Potsdam Fire Station for all the fallen firefighters, EMTs, and Veterans. Members then participated in the Annual Memorial Day Parade and remembrance ceremony at Ives Park followed by refreshments back at the firehouse before dispersing to go spend time with their families. Family time was quickly shortened though.

At 12:10, Potsdam Fire and Potsdam Police were dispatched to the corner of Elm Street and Cedar Street (in the village) for a report of an animal pinned under a vehicle. Engine 49 and Rescue 14 responded immediately.

Upon arrival firefighters found a German Shepard dog, which was struck by a truck, to be pinned under the front axle of the mid-size vehicle. Firefighters quickly took action and deployed airbags under the truck to lift the truck up enough to get the weight of the truck off the dog and to also get the dog out safely.

The quick actions by the firefighters, police officers and bystanders were a success! The dog was rescued and turned over to the owner who was going to take the dog to a local vet to get checked out. Besides the upset driver the truck was undamaged.

The Potsdam Fire Department would like to thank all the bystanders for not only their support, but their help until the police and firefighters could get on scene!
