The Potsdam Fire Department has been awarded an Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The grant, which is a $1500 matching grant, was applied for by First Assistant Chief Danielle Rose and will fund the purchase of lightweight wildland fire fighting protective clothing.
"The addition of this protective equipment will increase the safety of our personnel by reducing the physical stress on our members while they fight grass, brush, and wildland fires" according to Chief Rose. The department will match the $1500 and purchase a total of ten sets of wildland gear.
