On September 30, 2015 at 15:51 hours, Potsdam Fire was dispatched to SUNY Potsdam’s Crane Complex loading dock area for a report of a vehicle fire. Engine 49, operated by career Firefighter Dick Fenton, was enroute at the alarm time and was on-scene in little more than a minute.

Upon arrival firefighters found a 2008 Saab with the engine compartment fully involved with fire. Firefighters quickly gained access to the engine compartment and confined the fire to that area. A thick layer of foam was applied to the engine compartment to prevent a re-kindle.

The vehicle was immediately removed from the parking lot by a local towing company to eliminate any exposure issues should the vehicle have flared back up again. At the time of the fire no apparent damage was done to the surrounding vehicles. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

All units were back in service at 16:42.
