On July 14, 2016 at approximately 22:07, Potsdam Fire, Potsdam Rescue and Car 7 were dispatched to the vicinity of US Highway 11 and the Regan Road for a report of a two car accident with serious personal injury. Engine80 and Rescue 14 were out of service immediately.

Upon arrival Potsdam Fire 36-1 (J. Perry) assumed Incident Command and requested Life Net be placed on stand-by.

One vehicle was located on the roadway with the driver of the commercial vehicle unharmed. The second vehicle was located a quarter mile down the road and approximately 450 feet off in a field. Firefighters quickly made their way to the vehicle and found the driver of the vehicle still located in the vehicle, with minor injuries. The driver of the vehicle self-extricated herself, with the help of Potsdam Rescue personnel, from the vehicle once the medical providers saw her injuries were only minor cuts. The second patient of the vehicle was located on the ground outside of the vehicle. This patient had already self-extricated herself prior to the firefighter’s arrival. The patient had an apparent compound fracture to her ankle and a deep laceration to the calf area of her leg. Both patients where transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for further treatment.

Potsdam Fire provided traffic control for the St. Lawrence County Sheriffs and New York State Police while they conducted their investigation. At this time the accident is still under investigation.

Martins Towing removed the vehicles from the scene.
