The Potsdam Fire Department would like to remind residents that there is a statewide brush burning restriction in place from March 16th through May 14th!

Open burning of debris is one of the largest causes of grass fires in the county. Warmer temperatures mean spring cleaning to get yards cleaned of last year’s debris. With the tree limbs that may have fallen, the dry leaves and dead grass, fires can start easily and spread quickly due to winds and lack of green vegetation.

Please visit http://www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/58519.html for any further questions regarding the burn restriction and what is and is not permitted to be burned. Violations of the open burning regulations can result in tickets, fines, and court costs.

Open burning is prohibited year round in the Village of Potsdam. Residents of the Town of Potsdam are required to get a burn permit prior to any open burning. Information on permits can be obtained by calling the Town of Potsdam Code Enforcement Office at 315-265-0670.
