On Sunday April 2, 2017 at approximately 5:05 PM, Potsdam Fire, Potsdam Rescue, and County Car 7 were dispatched to 379 Hatch Road for a report of a chicken coop on fire. St. Lawrence County Central Dispatch advised responding units that the fire was threatening another structure.

Engine 80 and Tanker 100 responded within two minutes of the alarm.

Upon arrival firefighters found a small chicken coop to be fully involved in flames. With the moderate wind that day, the fire was threatening a large barn that was located next to the chicken coop. The homeowner was able to establish a water curtain on the back side of the house, prior to the fire department's arrival, to help protect the siding which did sustain minor heat damage. Firefighters deployed a 2 ½" and an 1 ¾" hoseline and extinguished the fire within a matter of minutes.

The chicken coop was not occupied by any animals at the time of the fire.

The fire is still under investigation by members of the St. Lawrence County Fire Investigation Team.

Twenty-one members responded to this incident and no injuries were reported.
