Area high school students from Potsdam and Colton Central School experienced a horrific scene of death and destruction as they watched firefighters and rescue personnel extricate victims from demolished vehicles at a simulated DWI accident on the SUNY Potsdam campus.

Firefighters from Potsdam Fire Department and rescue personnel from Canton Fire and Rescue, Colton Fire and Rescue, Potsdam Rescue Squad, and SUNY Potsdam Campus Rescue along with law enforcement officials from SUNY Potsdam University Police and Village of Potsdam Police worked closely to provide the high school spectators with a real true to life experience. Students witnessed fire and rescue vehicles arrive on the scene and quickly take control of the chaos. Emergency personnel secured the scene and went to work removing battered bodies from the vehicles. The law enforcement officials administered the field sobriety test and immediately cuffed the loud, obnoxious drunk driver and placed him under arrest. The victims were transported by ambulance and the single fatality was tended to by officials from Seymour's Funeral Home and transported to the morgue. The vehicles were removed from the scene by Martin's AAA Wrecker Service and suddenly it was over. This small indiscretion by one drunk driver killed one of his friends and injured several other innocent people.

This event was sponsored by the St. Lawrence County Stop DWI Program and SUNY Potsdam.
