On April 12, 2018, at 4:40AM, Potsdam firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 325 U.S. Highway 11B, Sheehan’s Scrap Metal Yard.

Potsdam 36-1 (D. Rose) requested Norwood, and Hannawa Falls fire departments to the scene with tankers, along with West Stockholm and Parishville Fire to the scene with a tankers and manpower. West Potsdam provided a stand-by crew at Potsdam Fire Station.

It was determined that the large scrap metal pile outback of the shop was on fire. Potsdam Firefighters were able to contain the fire to just the pile, saving the metal baler, large excavator, and a workshop that was in close proximity to the pile.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation at the time.
