Strong Winds Cause Busy Morning for Potsdam Fire

On the evening of October 31st and into the morning of November 1st the North Country was affected by strong winds and heavy rain. Just before midnight of November 1st the Potsdam Fire Department began to answer fire calls that continued into the later morning. At 2352 hours, on October 31st, Potsdam Fire was dispatched to 263 South Canton Road for a tree across the roadway with no wires involved. Engine 49 (J. Robar) responded with a crew and was able to remove the tree from the roadway.

At 0544 hours, Potsdam Fire were dispatched to respond to the vicinity of Old Potsdam Parishville Road and Perrin Road for wires down.

At 0618 hours, St. Lawrence County Central Dispatch placed a tone requesting that all fire departments in St. Lawrence County to man their stations for multiple incidents with the storm. Members began to man the Potsdam Fire Station and answer calls as they came in.

At 0619 hours, Potsdam Fire was dispatched to respond to the Heath Road off of State Highway 11B for a tree and wires down.
At 0620 hours, Potsdam Fire was dispatched to respond to 6937 State Highway 56 for a transformer fire.
At 0643 hours, Potsdam Fire was dispatched to respond to 131 Leroy Street for tree branches down on wires.

At 0655 hours, Potsdam Fire Engine 49 responded to the vicinity of Market Street and Walnut Street for a transformer that blew with lines down. Engine 49 responded and remained on scene until National Grid arrived.

At 0717 hours, Rescue 30 responded to the vicinity of Sisson Street along with Norwood Fire for a report of a tree blocking the whole road.
Engine 49 (R. Crowe) responded to the vicinity of IGA for reported wires down which was unfounded.

As Engine 49 was returning to the station, Potsdam Fire was sent to respond to Morningside Drive for a primary wire on a tree that was on fire. Engine 49 remained on scene until National Grid arrived and provided traffic control.

At 0805 hours, Potsdam Fire was dispatched in the vicinity of the high school for a tree in wires.

The final call of the morning, Potsdam Fire was dispatched to respond to the vicinity of the Old Potsdam Parishville Road and Perrin Road for lines down in the roadway. Engine 80 responded and found that the lines were in the roadway from an earlier call in the morning.
Potsdam Fire was in service at 1002 hours.
