Due to very dry conditions in St Lawrence County, a Local State of Emergency has been declared prohibiting open burning. Dry conditions have caused numerous out of control grass and brush fires around St. Lawrence County in recent days. The Burn Ban is effective as of 08:00 AM Tuesday, June 7, 2005 and will continue through 08:00 AM on Monday, June 13, 2005. During this period, all open fires including those in burn barrels are prohibited. St. Lawrence County law enforcement agencies have been advised to strictly enforce this ban on open burning. A violation of the burn ban will result in the responsible parties being issued a ticket for a Class B Misdemeanor. Numerous tickets were issued throughout the county during the last burn ban in April. If the warm, dry and windy weather conditions do not let up, the State of Emergency banning outdoor burning may be extended.

The Potsdam Fire Department urges all residents to comply with this order. When the State of Emergency is lifted, all Town of Potsdam residents are reminded that burn permits are required for burning brush, leaves, etc. For more information on burning regulations in the Town of Potsdam call the Town of Potsdam offices at 315-265-3430.
