Dryer Fire on Lower Pine Street

On August 5th 2020, at 1819 hours, Potsdam Fire received a phone call from Potsdam Police reporting that a house at 70 Lower Pine Street has their smoke alarms sounding and has smoke in the basement. At 1820 hours, Potsdam Fire Engine 49 responded chauffeured by Paid Driver Pierce and arrived on scene a few minutes later.

After arrival on scene, firefighters confirmed smoked in the basement. At 1828 hours, Paid Driver Pierce requested Central Dispatch for a 2nd alarm for SCBA personnel to respond to the scene. Engine 48 (B. Andrus) responded to the scene and 36-2 (M. Bradish) responded and assumed Incident Command. Potsdam Rescue was dispatched and responded to the scene for standby.

On scene, firefighters found a dryer on fire in the basement. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire using a water extinguisher. Firefighters used an exhaust van to ventilate the basement and clear the smoke. Potsdam Fire was in service at 1926 hours.
