On Tuesday, September 14th, 2021 at 0802 hours, Potsdam Fire, Potsdam Rescue, and County Car 10 were dispatched to a reported outside gas leak at Swan Landing Apartments. At 0803 hours, Potsdam Fire Engine 49 responded, chauffeured by Career Fire Driver Jerry Robar, and arrived on scene at 0807 hours. Firefighters found that a garbage truck was picking up a dumpster and when it set the dumpster down it had hit the gas meter, rupturing the gas line. Firefighters were able to stem the flow of natural gas by closing the valve below the meter as the line was broken downstream of the valve. Liberty Utilities were requested to the scene and Potsdam Fire maintained the scene until their arrival. The Village of Potsdam Code Enforcement was also requested to the scene by fire personnel. All units were in service at 0902 hours.
