High wind warnings were in place and Potsdam firefighters anticipated a busy night with the potential for wind gust up to 70 mph. As the evening approached the 911 center started receiving a high number of storm related calls. At 18:30 hrs. the St. Lawrence County 911 Center put out a County all call asking all fire departments to man their stations for storm related calls. 18 Potsdam firefighters reported to the station to staff 3 Engines, 1 Heavy Rescue and the light rescue. Almost immediately, the first call came in for a reported line down on Depot St in the Village. Firefighters responded to a total of 17 storm related calls. Carbon Monoxide Alarms 2 Potsdam Town Highway assisted with manpower and a loader on a couple larger trees. Firefighters were released from storm duty at 02:30 am. The Potsdam Fire Department would like to thank Sergis pizza for providing food for the firefighters during the storm. |
