On Friday, December 17th 2021, at 1313 hours, Potsdam Fire, Potsdam Rescue, and County Car 10 were dispatched to 7998 US Highway 11 for a reported car into a power pole with occupants trapped inside of the vehicle. The pole and power lines were on the vehicle as well. At 1317 hours, Engine 80 (J. Keleher) responded followed by Rescue 14 (J. Corbett) and arrived on scene at 1319 hours. The vehicle was on it's side in the ditch with the engine compartment on fire due to live wires being on top of the vehicle and battery acid spilling over the engine. The fire was difficult to suppress due to the live wires on top of the vehicle. National Grid was requested to the scene. Potsdam Police responded to Reagan Road and US Highway 11 to conduct traffic control. West Stockholm Fire was requested to Route 11 by the caution light in West Stockholm to shut the highway down and perform traffic control.

On scene, firefighters used two fire extinguishers to extinguish the fire. National Grid responded and cut the power to the lines. Firefighters went to work by cutting the windshield out of the vehicle, and were able to assist the occupant out of the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle was not injured.

The scene was investigated by New York State Police. US Highway 11 remained shut down for several hours as National Grid and utility companies replaced the damaged pole and lines. Rescue 30 (J. Mcgrath) provided additional traffic control at Reagan Road intersection. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Johnson's Towing. Potsdam Fire was in service at 1831 hours.
