Fire Extinguisher Prevents Spread of Fire at Racquette Road

On Monday, March 7th 2022, at 1027 hours, Potsdam Fire, Potsdam Rescue, and County Car 10 were dispatched to 303 Racquette Road for a reported kitchen fire,. It was unknown if the occupants of the residence were outside at the time of dispatch. At 1028 hours, Engine 49 Chauffeured by Paid Driver Robert Crowe responded and arrived on scene at 1031 hours. Engine 49 grabbed the closest hydrant on Racquette Road and laid into the area of the fire. It was found on arrival that the occupants were outside of the building. First arriving units to the scene, used a fire extinguisher to stop the spread of the fire.

Engine 80 (J. Corbett) and Rescue 14 (B. Andrus) responded shortly after. Firefighters on scene, used a thermal imaging camera to make sure that the fire had not extended, and overhauled the area to check for extension. It was found that the resident was using their microwave when it started to spark and had ignited napkins and other items on the counter top in the kitchen. No one was injured during the incident. The Village of Potsdam Code Enforcement Officer responded to the scene. Potsdam Fire was in service at 1124 hours.
