On Saturday, May 14th 2022, at 1731 hours, Potsdam Fire and Potsdam Rescue were dispatched to 4 1/2 Garden Street for a reported gas leak. At the time of alarm, Engine 49 chauffeured by Paid Driver Maroney responded and arrived on scene at 1735 hours. Liberty Utilities were requested on arrival.

On scene, Engine 49 positioned upwind from the house and located an active natural gas leak. Firefighters with assistance from Potsdam Police evacuated citizens to across the street from the area of the gas leak. Firefighters were able to shut the gas off with a spanner wrench off of Engine 49. It was found that the pipes off the house had disconnected from each other which caused the leak. Liberty Utilities arrived on scene and the scene was turned over them. Potsdam Police and Potsdam Rescue assisted on scene. Potsdam Fire was in service at 1758 hours.
