Quick storm topples tree on house

On Saturday, May 21st 2022 a severe thunderstorm warning was active for St. Lawrence County. With the severe thunderstorm warning high winds gusted thru the Potsdam area. At 1635 hours, Potsdam Fire was dispatched to two calls at once from the storm. The first call was for a tree down blocking both lanes of the roadway on outer Main Street just past the village limits. Engine 49 (B. Pierce) responded and firefighters used a chainsaw off of Engine 49 to cut the tree and open the roadway up. The second call, was for a reported tree onto a house at 492 May Road. Firefighters responded to the scene where it was found a large tree had fallen onto a house. It was found no one was injured and that everyone had made it outside of the house. Firefighters assisted in securing the utilities at the residence. The homeowners insurance company was contacting a tree company to remove the tree. Potsdam Fire was back in service at 1706 hours.
