Recently the Potsdam Fire Department has responded to numerous vicinity alarms in which we have located smoke alarms discarded in dumpsters or garbage bins. The Fire Department would like to remind the public that when replacing Smoke alarms or Carbon Monoxide Alarms make sure to remove the battery, or if it is a detector with a sealed battery to use the slider switch on the back of the alarm to deactivate the alarm.
