It is with deep sadness and regret that the Potsdam Fire Department announces the passing of veteran Firefighter Guy E. Reed, Jr. a member in good standing of Relief Hose Company #3 since October 31, 1991. Firefighter Reed lost his battle with bone cancer in the early evening hours of Sunday, July 24, 2005 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.

Firefighter Guy E. Reed, Jr. was a member of the St. Lawrence County Fire Chiefs Association, Northern New York Volunter Firemen's Association, St. Lawrence County Fire Police Association, New York State Volunteer Fire Police Association, and the Firemen's Association of the State of New York. Guy contributed greatly to the Potsdam Fire Department's fire prevention program and was a valued member of the Safety Team at the George E. Briggs Fire Training Center operated by the St. Lawrence County Fire Chief's Association. Guy was also active as a parade judge/official with the Northern New York Parade & Drill Officials Association. Before joining the Potsdam Fire Department Guy was an active member of the Racquette River Vol. Fire Department and served in the United States Army. Guy's contributions to the fire service and his community will be missed.
