Potsdam Fire was dispatched at 0210 hours to a reported serious MVA with one patient laying on the ground and the vehicle on fire, unknown if there were additional occupants. Given the severity of the call, Career FF Crowe responded immediately with Engine 49 and Engine 80 (J. Keleher) responded several minutes later . Additional information enroute from Central Dispatch indicated that there was some confusion whether there were one or two vehicles involved. Engine 49 arrived at 0218 to find a single vehicle split in half with the front half on fire in the roadway. A line was stretched and the fire extinguished. The lone patient was laying in the lawn near the adjacent home and was treated and transported by Potsdam Rescue Squad for his injuries. Further investigation turned up no additional vehicles or occupants. The car had left the roadway, striking a large tree, and split in half. Members helped clear the road of debris and the vehicle was removed by Bob's Auto. All Potsdam Fire units were back in service at 0400 hours.
