On Wednesday, September 27th, 2023 at 1908 hours, West Stockholm Fire, Potsdam Rescue, and County Car 10 were dispatched to vicinity of 9 Duddy Road, for reports of the old sawmill on fire. 48-1 Torey Russell reported at the time their was heavy black smoke in the air and requested Potsdam Fire with engine, tanker, manpower, and Tower 5 and Brasher-Winthrop with engine, tanker, and manpower to scene.
At 1914 hours, Tanker 100 (J. Bradish), Tower 5 (J. Keleher) Engine 80 (S. Corbett) responded followed by Engine 48 (B. Corbett) and Rescue 14 (J. Farnsworth), with units arriving on scene at 1921 hours. Firefighters on scene were met with heavy fire as the building which was approximately 200' x 85'eventually collapsed.
Tanker 100 joined the tanker shuttle along with tankers from Hannawa Falls Fire, Lawrenceville Fire, Hopkinton-Fort Jackson Fire, West Stockholm Fire, Brasher-Winthrop Fire, Parishville Fire, Norwood Fire, Norfolk Fire. Tanker 100 shuttled 7 loads of water. Tower 5 was placed in a driveway to utilize it's master stream. Engine 80 laid 5" line from Tower 5 to the roadway where multiple porta-ponds were set up. Engine 80 then supplied the tower from draft. Engine 48 set up at Rutley's Pond and drafted to fill tankers along with Brasher-Winthrop Fire doing the same. Firefighters remained on scene for several hours fighting the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation and is being investigated by the St. Lawrence County Fire Investigation Team. Potsdam Fire was in service at 0006 hours. |
