Motor Vehicle Accident Closes County Route 59 for Several Hours

On Sunday, February 18th at 0210 hours, Potsdam Fire and Rescue were requested to the scene of motor vehicle accident at the intersection of County Route 59 and South Canton Road. At 0222 hours, Engine 80(J. Keleher) and Rescue 14 (Ju. Mcgregor) responded and arrived on scene at 0227 hours. Once on scene, it was found a single car had left the road and struck several trees, a power pole, and there was a power line down on the ground. 36-6 (J. Bradish) was Command and advised that County 59 in the area was going to be shut down. The operator of the vehicle was transported by Potsdam Rescue with minor injuries. National Grid responded to the scene and worked for several hours. Engine 80 and Rescue 14 provided scene lighting and set up traffic control in the area to direct traffic away from the scene. The scene was investigated by the Potsdam Police Department and the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department. Bob's Auto was requested to tow the vehicle but was unable until the pole and lines were fixed. Potsdam Fire was in service at 0726 hours.
