Reported Fire in Apartment on Maple Street

On Monday, April 1st 2024 at 1726 hours, Potsdam Fire, Potsdam Rescue, and County Car 10 were dispatched to a reported structure fire, fire in the apartment at 131 Maple Street, Apartment 4. At 1727 hours, Engine 49 Chauffeured by Paid Driver Crowe responded and arrived on scene at 1728 hours with a reported smoke showing per Potsdam Police that was on scene. 36-2, Mark Bradish, then requested West Potsdam Fire with manpower to the scene. Upon investigation, West Potsdam was asked to standby at their station. Engine 48 (J. Keleher) and Rescue 14 (B. Corbett) responded a short time later.

On scene, firefighters entered the apartment and used a wet can and used overhaul procedures to prevent the extension of the fire. It was found, that tenants had used a fire extinguisher to extinguish the flames inside of the apartment that was on fire. After, quick overhaul and use of a thermal imaging camera, it was found that the fire had been extinguished.

Upon investigation, it was determined that the fire was accidental. Potsdam Rescue responded for fire standby, no injuries were reported. The scene was investigated by the Potsdam Police Department. Potsdam Fire was in service at 1900 hour.
