On the morning of Sunday May 11, 2025 members of the Potsdam Fire Department gathered at the St. Lawrence County fire training center in West Potsdam for a day of hands on training.

To begin the day members were instructed and demonstrated how to approach gas fires and safely shut off the source of the gas.
Next on the agenda for the day members practiced search and rescue, hose line advancement and radio communications in a simulated low visibility environment. During this training evaluation members had to find the victim and evacuate them out of the building from the upper story windows using the aerial ladder on Tower 5.

Members were then tasked with completing an air consumption drill by completing various task while in full SCBA.
Instruction was on the proper way to connect to a hydrant as well as safety concerns during hydrant operations, members demonstrated on how to property “dress” the hydrant

To conclude the training day members went over the operational procedures for safely responding to and extinguishing a car fire.

17 members participated in this training day.

On the evening of Monday May 12, 2025 members joined the West Potsdam Vol. Fire Department at their station for a joint training put on by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers.

The training began by Forest Ranger Ellis going over the safe use and operation of chainsaws. The use of proper personal protective equipment was discussed and the different types of chainsaws.

After the classroom portion of the training members had the chance for some hands on training with chainsaw. They demonstrated the proper use and handling of a chainsaw.
