At 2352 hours the Potsdam Fire dept. was dispatched to a reported porch on fire at 29 Lawrence Avenue in the Village. Engine 49 was en route immediately and arrived on scene two minutes later. Asst. Chief Perry arrived on scene and declared a working fire and requested mutual aid manpower from the West Stockholm FD. The front of the house was well involved, and flames rapidly spread throughout the circa 1900 structure. Our new Aerial platform was due to be placed in service this morning and responded to its first call. Access to the front of the house was obstructed by a large tree which members had to limb out to get T5 in position. Mutual aid was also requested from Hannawa Falls, with West Potsdam covering Potsdam Station. Potsdam had 36 members on scene and maintained a watch with SLC Fire investigators until 1100 hours 9/21. 1600 feet of large diameter hose was used to supply 2 engines and the tower.
