Potsdam Fire was dispatched at 7:06 PM on Thanksgiving Night to 206 Outer Main St, Apartment 46 B (Collegiate Village) for a sprinkler activation. Potsdam Fire Engine 49 responded at the time of alarm. On arrival, members found that a sprinkler head had activated in the kitchen area. Members along with maintenance from the apartment complex were able to shut power off to the apartment, and stop the water flow.
Further investigation revealed that the sprinkler system was activated when the resident was frying food in a pan, and a grease fire started. The sprinkler system activation stopped the fire from spreading further, although there was some water damage to the apartment. The building was turned over to maintenance staff, and Code Enforcement was advised for follow up. Potsdam Fire units were in service at 8:09 PM. |
