Transformer Issues and Mutual aid to Norwood Fire

On Saturday, January 1st 2022, at 2125 hours, Potsdam Fire were dispatched to thefront of Price Chopper on Market Street for a report of a pole on fire, possible blown transformer. Engine 49 Chauffeured by Career Fire Driver Bob Crowe, responded at the time of alarm and arrived on scene at 2128 hours, to find that the transformer was not on fire but appeared to have been blown. National Grid was contacted to respond. Potsdam Fire was in service at 2139 hours.

At 2207 hours, Potsdam Fire was dispatched to Price Chopper for electrical issues, odor of something hot in the compressor room. Engine 49 (Crowe) responded at 2207 hours and arrived on scene at 2211 hours. It was found, due to the blown transformer that the coolers inside of Price Chopper were being overworked. National Grid was notified of the issue. Firefighters remained on scene at Price Chopper until electricians from Price Chopper were able to respond and shut the power down to mitigate the issue with the coolers.

While on scene, at 2258 hours, Potsdam Fire was requested as mutual aid for the tower and manpower to Norwood Fire to 7225 State Highway 56, BOCES for a reported structure fire. At 2308 hours, Engine 48 (Ju. McGregor), Rescue 14 (B. Corbett) responded followed by Tower 5 (J. Corbett) and arrived on scene at 2316 hours. Norwood 30-1 requested Tower 5 set up on the B side of the structure and to check the roof to assure their was no active fire. Firefighters made way to the roof where no fire was found. Potsdam Fire was then released from scene and back in service at 0020 hours.
